Our History

In the Spring of 2003, Kent Marthaler and Chuck Lanes paths crossed. Kent was working with an architect on a negotiated commercial project and the architect liked what he saw. In conversation the architect mentioned he was designing floor plans for a senior housing developer who was in search of a qualified builder who could meet his budget. A few weeks later, Kent and Chuck were working together on what would turn out to be one of several senior housing projects over the next three years.

By the end of 2005, C&J Development and MC Builders and Developers, Inc. had jointly developed, built, owned and managed five senior housing facilities across Minnesota in locations of Pine City, Worthington, Aitkin, Tower and Pierz. The growth of the two companies sustained and began duplicating expenses for each company. It was apparent to both Kent and Chuck that their business plans needed to change.

On July 1, 2006 the merge between MC Builders & Developers, Inc. and C&J Development was complete. Resources from both businesses created KC Companies, Inc. Kent Marthaler holds the position of President, and Chuck Lane is the Vice President. KC Companies, Inc. headquarters from Pequot Lakes, MN. KC Companies, Inc. currently manages 100s of employees.
